We’re honored to be selected as a 2026 Food Justice for Kids Prize recipient by Newman’s Own Foundation, Humanitix, The Henry P. Kendall Foundation, and Hunger to Health Collaboratory!
Across the country, organizations are creating opportunities for children and young people to learn about healthy food and build stronger connections to food, culture, and community. We’re proud to have our work recognized alongside so many organizations as we transform the health of younger generations through our food as medicine approach.
At La Colaborativa, we believe nutrition education is most powerful when young people experience it firsthand. Through our Freight Farm and Teaching Kitchen, participants can be part of the entire journey of food, from growing and harvesting fresh ingredients to preparing and enjoying them. Through our pantry and Puente a la Salud clinic, we ensure all families can access culturally familiar, nutritious food that prevents, or alleviates, the chronic health issues too common in our community. Instilling this in the younger generation is a key to transforming community health, combatting hunger, and achieving lasting systems change.
By combining food production, hands-on cooking, and culturally relevant learning, our model helps young people build practical skills, confidence, and a stronger connection to healthy foods.
This recognition will help us continue growing more than food, we’re growing knowledge, confidence, and healthier futures.
