Empowering Latinx immigrants to enhance the social and economic health of the community and its people; and to hold institutional decision-makers accountable to the community.

Coming Soon: Chelsea Survival Center

Throughout the pandemic, La Colaborativa has launched significant expansions of Survival Programs for our largely Latinx, immigrant, and Spanish-speaking community. This has included a large-scale food pantry, emergency housing stabilization clinics, rapid re-employment initiatives, mental health supports, and mobile COVID testing and vaccination pop-ups.

Recognizing that the road to pandemic recovery for hard-hit families, who were struggling to survive pre-pandemic, requires a long-term, holistic, and consistent approach, La Colaborativa has worked over the last two years to find and secure a permanent home for our expanding programs. We are excited to share that at the end of 2021, we officially purchased two buildings at 63 6th Street in Chelsea. Together, the buildings will provide 28,000 square feet of space dedicated to lifesaving work and the people of Chelsea.

Survival Center Programs

The Chelsea Survival Center will house all emergency response programs of La Colaborativa, which have expanded significantly since the beginning of the pandemic.

Survival Pantry, with weekly distributions serving 5,000+ households/week. Food, diapers, baby supplies, PPE, and clothing and coats are all distributed from the pantry.

Community Kitchen, to feature nutrition education and healthy cooking demonstrations, and provide opportunities for La Colaborativa members to develop their own food businesses.

Housing Stabilization Programs, providing case management to families experiencing housing insecurity. In 2022, La Colaborativa has helped 2,000 households stabilize through free legal aid, emergency housing placements, housing assistance application support, utility assistance, cash assistance, landlord mediation, etc.

Mobile Health Clinics, featuring free COVID testing and vaccinations, and other basic health services in partnership with Mass General Brigham and East Boston Neighborhood Health Center.

Local Consumer Protection Programs, in partnership with the Attorney General’s Office, providing support to prevent fraud and other scams targeting immigrant communities.

Case Management, to address the full range of challenges facing La Colaborativa’s hard-hit community including citizenship and immigration issues, domestic violence cases, mental health referrals, and more.
